BLURB:
THE WORLD IS BREAKING. AND SO ARE THEY.

KATE HARKER isn't afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she's good at it.

AUGUST FLYNN once yearned to be human. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

THE WAR HAS BEGUN.

THE MONSTERS ARE WINNING.

Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims' inner demons.

Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

EXPECTATIONS: It took me really long to finally get to this book. I actually preordered it but then other books somehow got in a way and only because of Kat I ended up picking it finally up. We did a buddy read together and it was great.

THE WORLD: This is a second and final book in a series so I will try not to spoil the first book in case you have not read it. Basically it is the world sorta like we know it except that at some point all violent crimes started to give birth to monsters. So dependent on the type of crime three different monsters can be born. This lead to the city being divide in two parts one ruled by a rich man who protect people who pay for it and other part is sorta ruled by volunteers who try to protect people from being killed by the monsters. These two city parts are at war and that is basically all I can tell you.

CHARACTERS: We have two main characters in this series: Kate and August. Kate is a daughter of rich man who protect people that pay for their protections and August is an adopted son of the leader of the volunteers on other side. August is also a monster that was born of a violent crime but he is the closest form of monster to humans as it gets. Basically he is a reaper, he has a violin that hypnotizes you and he takes a soul of sinners. But August does not like being a monster, he wants to be human and here is where the issues start. Of course this was main idea of the first book, in second one characters are way more developed, we get to the point where August understands he is not after all human but it does not mean he goes off killing people. The way August deals with his pain is very well written I think and frankly I still think that August was more human than many humans in this series. Kate on the other hand is in different city for a big chunk of this book, we do get her POV of course but it is at first hard to differentiate between new characters she interacts with. I think Kate was also very developed but where August learned to deal with his pain, Kate rather drowned in hers. I will always love them both even tho yes, Kate still gets on my nerves sometimes.

ROMANCE: Unfortunately first book being hyped as a friendship book did not move on into the second book which was a big disappointment for me. I really wanted for one to have a series where it is not about romance and where boy and a girl can be just friends.

GOOD: Pretty much everything. It is Victoria Schwab after all!

BAD: For me ending was too fast, I would have loved another 200 pages just to have it all stated slower. It was too much to take in at some points.

OVERALL: I will repeat myself but I do not care, it is Victoria Schwab and we all know that everything she writes is pure gold! Go read this series if you haven't yet, it's just so so good!

What do you think about OUR DARK DUET?
